This document specifies system framework, operation sequences and communication interfaces, as well as performance requirements for sub-systems, operation and management functions, environmental conditions within the operation zone, and test procedures to verify the minimum performance requirements of AVDS. This document defines the system architecture with the sub-systems and the communication interfaces between the sub-systems at the logical level but not the assignment of the sub-systems to business entities. This document contains requirements for the management functions such as checking compatibility between vehicles and facilities, performing remote assistance and recovery when automated driving cannot be performed, and executing operation stop commands in response to the actions of other facility users. AVDS is restricted to cars (M1) and light commercial vehicles with a weight below 3,5 t (N1) according to ECE/TRANS/WP.29/78/Rev.3 and is not intended to be utilized for transportation of people.
